I plan on keeping my son in his 5-point car seat until he has reached the maximum weight requirement. Not only is it safest that way but I also paid a fortune for it so he’s staying in it! I have been doing some looking around though for a really safe booster seat that we can eventually transition to when it’s time and will probably use in my parent’s vehicle for now. When it comes to car seat shopping I don’t pinch pennies, I look for high quality items that I can trust my child will be safe in. I was really happy to come across the Diono Monterey Expandable Booster with it’s state-of-the-art design that boasts safety as well as convenience (There’s nothing worse than a car seat that is hard to install).

The Monterey Booster Seat is the first height and width adjustable car seat on the market. It accommodates kids until they are 120 pounds or 63 inches tall. Diono was previously branded as Sunshine Kids Juvenile Products which functioned for over 10 years successfully. In addition to the Monterey Booster, convertible seats are also available. Neutral as well as bold colors are available. My son was very excited to pick out his blue seat that he’ll use someday.

Pros

-Easy Installation! This is the number one thing I look at. Since we’ll be transitioning from our Britax convertible seat to this booster, I wanted the new booster to be as easy as our beloved 5-point harness seat. The secure latch attachment system on the Monterey is simple.
-A single dial on the back expands the back of the seat to make it wider.
-The headrest can be adjusted with one hand very simply.
-The Monterey comes with 2 cup holders; One on each side. A lot of other companies require you to purchase extra features and attachments which I won’t usually do and don’t like to do.

Cons

-Diono seats are available through a number of retail stores and online stores as well, however there aren’t many places in my area that carry them. This might be different for everyone though, so not a huge con.

Morning sickness is awful. Enough said. I considered myself lucky when I was pregnant with my son because I really didn’t have it too bad. My heart goes out to all the moms I’ve met who were sick for the full nine months. I did come across one product however that was heaven sent and helped me during those first few months when I couldn’t get out the door in the morning because of the nausea I was experiencing. Three Lollies makes a line of products that help pregnant moms get through those first few months (Or longer) without having to take something that could be harmful to the baby.

Preggie Pops and Preggie Pops Drops are use essential oils and aromatherapy to ward off that annoying nausea. Flavors include peppermint, spearmint, ginger, lavender, lemon, tangerine and raspberry. Each flavor is pretty different from the others so you may find that certain ones work better for you than others. I had my favorites being raspberry, tangerine and lemon but everyone is different.

Both the Pops and the Drops are formulated the same. I liked the drops better because I was able to take them to work and melt them discreetly. This was before I announced I was expecting so it passed as a cough drop or hard candy. I saved the pops for when I was home or out running errands. They’re so effective I never had to eat a whole one before I was feeling better. Within a minute or two or popping one in my mouth I was already feeling quite a bit better.

Three Lollies products can also be used during labor for dry mouth, nausea and as a little energy boost. Aside from products that help women cope with morning sickness, Three Lollies also makes Queasy Pops for kids, Queasy Drops for women dealing with nausea from breast cancer treatment and Smoking Sucks lollipops that can replace those nasty cigarettes! People have found many uses for this product. Some people use it for general nausea, nausea during an illness and even before boarding a boat to prevent motion sickness. You can visit www.threelollies.com for more information.

Three Lollies is giving away one package of Preggie Pops and one packages of Preggie Pops Drops to one lucky winner! Leave a comment below to enter and good luck!

It seems that once we’re done shopping for one holiday the next one pops up and I’m at the mall shopping again. As each one passes I seem to have a harder and harder time finding something unique and meaningful for our loved ones. What I like about Etsy is that the items are handmade by unique designers and that means I can find items that I won’t find anywhere else. There’s so many shops on Etsy that I’m always able to find something that tailors to a person’s interests. Jen’s Backyard is a shop on Etsy that has so many different items you can get all your shopping done in one place for a holiday like Mother’s Day or even Christmas.

Jen’s Backyard has creations of all kinds that include handmade note cards, inspirational jewelry and vintage items. Each item is made by hand and with care by Jen herself, a mother and a wife who enjoys providing her family with homegrown vegetables, raising the family’s own chickens and maintaining a composte pile. With family time being a priority for this shop owner, Jen enjoys turning to her backyard to find inspiration for the gifts that help keep her family afloat.

One of Jen’s most interesting line of products is her live moss collection that takes live moss and attaches it by hand to necklaces, hair pins and more. Inspired by the hummingbird that makes her nest in Jen’s backyard each year, people will be interested to know where you got such a unique piece.

I’m a big fan of all the notecards that are available from Jen’s Backyard. I’m constantly sending off little thank you notes or updated photos of the little man so I like to have quite a collection going so that’s I’m not using the same stack of cards every time. Jen’s fabric cards are really unique and give a personal touch to each message.

You can visit http://etsy.com/shop/jensbackyard to take a look at Jen’s line of products. Right now select note cards are on sale for 50% off.

I love having a son. I love playing cars and trucks, reading books about planets, getting messy in the backyard and watching my little guy play sports. What I don’t love though, is the lack of cute boys clothes that are available. Pretty much any store I go into is 75% girl’s clothing with tons of purples, pinks, kitties and flowers. Don’t get me wrong, if I ever have a daughter I’ll be right in the thick of it with you other moms or girls. I think the clothes are adorable. Unfortunately I tend to be disappointed with the shades of blues and sometimes browns if you’re lucky. I don’t get excited when every shirt either has a skull or a football on it. It’s nice that my son’s entire closet matches with each other but I’d like to spruce it up once in awhile!

I came across Dogwood Clothing Company and I was thrilled! Finally there are some cuter clothes for boys out there that are affordable and look great. Dogwood prides themselves on having a quality line of boy’s clothes that looks modern but with classic styling. They came about in 1998 and since then has acquired many loyal and pleased customers.

What I like best about Dogwood is that their style is really fun and comfortable but still nice enough that the clothes can be worn out to dinner or to a family gathering. The graphics on the shirts, for example, are bright and colorful, clear and interesting. They look great with a nice pair of jeans or one of Dogwood’s cargo pants which makes the whole ensemble look really classy. There are also polo shirts and even tie dye shirts available.

Dogwood Clothing Company allows for you to shop for your son’s entire wardrobe. You can get heavier, long sleeved shirts and pants for the colder months and in addition to shorts and tee shirts for the summer you can also pick up some really cute board shorts for your next vacation or trip to the beach.

Sizes for most clothes vary from about 12 months to a size 4. There is a new line of onesies available for babies.

For a limited time you can use the code 25OFF to save 25% off every regular priced item you purchase.

Items can be ordered on their website: www.dogwoodusa.com and can be found in select retail stores including Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and kitson.

While I am a Mom and that is my full time (and then some) job, I like to keep my house looking like adults live there- at least sometimes. While the toys are everywhere, my pantry is filled with drink boxes and kid-friendly snacks and most of the rooms are taken over by my son, I like to have some input on the decor of the home and reflect my personal taste on something. I try to sneak my sense of style in anywhere I can to keep me sane! I was happy to add a Modern Twist placemat to our collection of Diego, Iron Man and theUnited States ones we currently have.

Modern Twist creates products that bring artwork to the table in the form of food-grade silicone placemats (Plus other products). They are not only attractive but they’re well made and useful. My son has one of the kid’s designs and they come with six different colored dry erase pens that can be used to color in and decorate the mat. They’re really durable and won’t easily rip or bend. They also stay put instead of sliding all over like our others do. You can wipe off the colors and have your child start again next time they sit down for a meal.

The kid’s placemats from Modern Twist are completely BPA, PVC, lead an latex free. They don’t contain any other harsh chemicals and they’re non-porous, meaning you won’t be harboring germs in these mats. The size of the mats are 12″x16″.

The other art-inspired mats that are perfect for adults come in really great prints. They add a new sense of style to your dining area and they’re fit right along with the style of your kid’s placemat. You can visit www.modern-twist.com for more information or to take a look at the different styles they have available. Most of the mats fall in the $15 – $20 range. They do last for a long time though and you won’t find the need to replace them as often as you would cheaper versions.

When my son was little I could easily scoop him up and help him wash his hands. Now that he’s four and quite a bit heavier there’s no way I can hold him up long enough to get him to scrub and rinse, trust me I’ve tried, it doesn’t go well. After hearing about people making their own faucet extenders for their bathrooms I decided to look around online for an already-made product that would work for our hand washing dilemma. I came across Aqueduck and I wish I had found it sooner! Aqueduck is removable and can easily be switched between faucets throughout your home. If you have company you can remove it and stash it in a cabinet, but it’s really not very big or bulky so your guests probably won’t mind at all. The extender slips onto the neck of the faucet and gives the water some extra room to slide down, reaching your child’s hands. It’s BPA, PVC and phthalates free.

Pros:

Parents and adults can still wash their hands like normal with the product attached.

It’s easy to remove when you’re cleaning or having company.

It’s affordable! Only $12.99 for a product you’ll use numerous times every day.

It’s so easy to get your child to wash their own hands. They will have no problem getting to the water.

Cons:

Because the product is portable your child can easily grab it and remove it or turn it. We haven’t had any problems though and it just requires a straightening or two once in awhile.

The Aqueduck can be found a many different retailers throughout theUnited States. You can visit www.aqueduck.com for more information or to find a location near you that carries this product. A waterproof bag is also available so you can travel with your Aqueduck wherever you go.

One of the first eco-friendly switches we made when we started ‘going green’ was to start using reusable water bottles. Not only were we reducing the amount of plastic we threw into landfills but it also saved us a ton of money not having to buy pre-bottled water. We invested in a reverse osmosis filtration system 6 years ago and we’ve been hooked on bottling our own water ever since. That being said, I’m always on the lookout for the latest and greatest water bottle for every member of the family. One of my favorite water bottle lines comes from Lifefactory.

At first my husband and I used primarily plastic water bottles. This was before all of the information came out regarding BPA so we were unaware how unhealthy this could be. Once we became knowledgeable on the subject we decided to switch to BPA-free bottles but I was still unhappy and unsure and wasn’t thrilled with the taste stainless bottles sometimes gave the water throughout the day so I looked into glass bottles. The problem with the few glass bottles I tried was that they weren’t protected enough. I lost one in the driveway when it fell out of my bag and dropped a few others. What I love about Lifefactory’s bottles is that they have a silicone jacket on them that covers the entire bottle enough that even though I’ve knocked it over a few times, nothing has cracked or become damaged. The lid is made of plastic but it is BPA free and it is the safest plastic available for food and beverage contact.

The overall design of Lifefactory’s bottles are really practical. The bottles themselves are nice and large with a wide mouth. The plastic cap has a nice sized spout with a silicone cap. There’s even a plastic handle for easy carrying (Now I don’t have to put it in my bag and have it face a similar fate to my other deceased water bottles!). After trying the bottle out at home for a few days I took it to the gym (the big test!), yoga class and to run errands. I’ve been using it for quite a while now and there’s been no problems.

Now that my son is four I’ve tried to get him into safer products as well. I used stainless sports bottles with him for awhile but none of them were easier to tote around- they always leaked. I was beyond thrilled to find that Lifefactory makes children sized bottles that are glass, have the same silicone jacket but they have a screw on top. This obviously works better for the older kids as they younger ones would probably spill a lot. The smaller bottles are just as sturdy and we’ve been tossing them into my son’s lunch box and soccer bag with no issues. There are also sippy cup styles available in addition to bottles. We used glass bottles when my son was a baby and never had any problems so I probably would have tried these sippy’s if I had known about them at the time.

A ton of different colors are available in all of the different sized bottles. You can also buy replacement caps and mix and match different styles of them (there’s a classic loop cap instead of the flip top that works well if you’re keeping it in a purse or bag). An average 22 oz adult bottle retails just under $25 while the smaller kid sizes hover around $15. A free shipping promotion on orders over $60 is usually running at the Lifefactory website: www.lifefactory.com.
