It seems that cold and flu season has passed us by… or has it? My kids are still getting sick and I blame a lot of it on the weather. Not sure what it wants to do most of the time.

I have 4 kids, so once one gets sick, they ALL get sick. I was lucky enough to not suffer from any sickness, which is very hard to believe but I was well enough to take care of my babies for when they had gotten beat down with the colds and my oldest daughter with the flu.

When my kids were struck with the cold I was lucky enough to have Children’s Mucinex Multi-Symptom Cold Medicine in my cabinet. It wasn’t long before it was all gone, it helped them with the stuffy nose, cough and congestion.

We are pretty avid on using sanitizer in my house, and I disinfect EVERYTHING. Seems I had a can of Lysol in my hands at all times spraying everything they touched. Always making sure my kids are washing their hands, and myself as well. I am not sure what I would do differently next cold season that I didn’t do this season. I don’t think it matters, when their at public school they are bound to catch something.

When my children are sick we do movie nights, we all just bundle up on the couch and pop in a good movie to watch to pass the time. Of course they usually don’t make it through since they are asleep about 30 minutes into the movie. But with us being a close knit family it helps them feel more secure and know that the sickness isn’t going to last forever.
They love to color and play with play-doh, so I always make sure I have a “sickness kit” ready for them so they don’t get bored.
How do you prepare for your child in case they get sick?

Since the flu season was so bad we have decided to try to do a bit more at protecting ourselves. I NEVER touch a cart at the store unless it is wiped down with sanitizing wipes. My kids carry hand sanitizer with them at all times and I enforce hand washing. You can never be too careful anymore and what germs are being spread. I am always wiping down counters and using Lysol for door knobs, light switches, etc. I think it does help, but again, I think if they are going to get sick, there’s no way around it, especially if they are at a public school, kids sneeze on each other and it doesn’t seem to matter to them, all we can do is try to make sure if they do get sick that they have the proper care at home.

Before giving my children any medicine I always make sure to check with their doctor. It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

My daughter, Kyria, has a problem with bed wetting. It’s not something we like to discuss but it’s a problem we need to attend to and be serious about. I have tried so many things, even during Kindergarten she would have to wear pull ups to bed and she hated it. She, like every other child wants to be a “big kid” and she never felt that way because she always had to wear a “diaper”.
That was up until I was contacted by Renee Mercer who introduced us to the Dry-Me Bedwetting Alarm at the Bedwetting Store. I tried to see if my daughter would model, but she wouldn’t (I can’t blame her) she told me she is too embarassed, so I have to use stock photo’s.

This little device has helped us conquer bedwetting. Seems unreal to me, I didn’t think it would ever happen, but we have made it through and thanks to this little red machine, I don’t have to wash sheets every day!

You may look at it like I did… “How is this going to help get my child to quit wetting the bed?”
It’s actually pretty simple! The Dry-Me clip sensor attached to outside of the underwear and you carry the cord up through their shirt by their chest and you just hook the main part there by the chest onto their PJ’s. This is close enough to their ears that it will wake them. With the slightest bit of wettness the alarm will sound which will make them wake up and go to the bathroom. Believe me when I say that it is loud enough to wake them and once they get used to it it’ll be a breeze for them to know and understand.

I have spent many days/nights trying to explain to my daughter that it is okay, that she isn’t alone having this bedwetting problem. Many kids her age and older do it, it’s something they simply can not control. But I have older kids, too, and they would tease her, they would also get in VERY big trouble, but none-the-less it hurt her. So the Dry-Me Bedwetting Alarm is highly effective and it worked like a charm for my sweet Kyria. I am SO proud of her and she is much more happier and more confident about going to bed and waking up dry.

What’s better is when you receive the package in the mail, it’s ready to go out of the box. There is no assembly required.

The Dry-Me bed wetting alarm is a highly effective enuresis alarm that should be near the top of the ‘value-minded’ shopper’s list. Modestly priced, this alarm is equipped with several features designed to provide comfort and deliver enhanced alert methods to wake even the deepest sleepers when wetting occurs.

The alarm is small and lightweight and features a plastic clip molded directly on the back of the alarm unit, which clips comfortably at the shoulder area or collar of the child’s pajamas. The alarm’s small moisture sensor is threaded under your child’s shirt and is clipped to the outside of close fitting underwear where wetness would first occur. This bedwetting alarm is well made and designed to go off at the first sign of moisture.

The Dry-Me alarm has three customizable alert settings that allow you to pick between sound & vibration, sound only, or vibration only. I am not certain I have told you what my biggest love is; (besides my husband & children) ….

It’s smells. Be it from my house smelling good to myself… okay, more of myself smelling good, but my house, too! I have a HUGE love for Bath & Body Works! Hard times… isn’t that the name of the game anymore? Just when you think things are getting better, BOOM! False alarm.

My husband got a job, finally. After a year and a half of looking, he finally found something. Of course getting it was not an easy task. He is a type 1 diabetic as I am sure most of you know and he had to pass a D.O.T physical. Having Type 1 Diabetes passing that physical is next to near impossible. I swear these work places act like he is contagious! It’s DIABETES… He is no different than you and I. People really should learn about it. Apparently, you shouldn’t drive if you have it. My question would be then why doesn’t every diabetic have their license taken away? Crazy, crazy! After 2 weeks of non-stop fighting he finally got the job and working his butt off, but he missed it and he’s pretty happy he can support his family again and be a man. He was going through a depression for awhile there.

So meanwhile – Here are the bills, piling up. Here comes rent. Here comes every freaking bill collector known to man. Then here are my kids, that I can’t even buy Summer clothes for. Me going to churches for help. I am so tired of sucking up my pride, I’ve been doing it for much too long. Honestly, it’s embarrassing owing money and not being able to keep your ahead even just barely above water, you just feel like you’re drowning and there’s no end in sight. I see the light at the end of the tunnel…of course that’s 2 weeks from now when he gets his first check, but will everything wait until then? Nope. I just want to hide away until this all ends.
I have a gas bill due and can’t pay it. With the cold weather and snow that came in, I thank God it hasn’t been shut off, but it’s just a matter of time, I’m sure later today it’ll be off, which sucks! Can I just scream?!?
Nope! Momma has to keep her cool and not let my kids see how this is just tearing me apart.

The other night we took my youngest daughter to the E.R because she’s been having really bad headaches, which apparently are being caused by her bad eyes. It’s pretty bad, my poor baby. She’s getting migraines from it. She lost her glasses and we ordered her another pair from Medicaid but that takes forever to get approved and for them to actually send them. Her script is so bad she can’t even walk in her glasses, she can only sit down, do her work or watch TV without getting up. She’s 6, that’s close to impossible! Then I have my other daughter who also has bad eyes and a disease called Optic Neuropothy, her glasses are so scratched and falling off her face, but Medicaid won’t get her another pair unless they are broke…I’d break them if she could go without them, but she can’t.

When does it get better? I keep my faith, I pray, I don’t pray for me, I pray for my children. Of course this is just what’s on the outside…the tearing from inside I still can’t talk about. The stress, the pain… all hid. I know my stresses aren’t as bad as others, and I know things could get worse, but crap! I’m not sure how much worse! At the end of June we have to move, our landlord is selling the house we’re renting. Finding a house to rent in the same school district as my kids go to isn’t easy. I am putting ads out but get nothing, then having the money to move. Holy crap!!!

UGH – I just want to catch a break.
It’s got to get better, right?

I just have to keep the faith and pray. I know the Lord will take care of us. It’s just hard not being able to be able to give my kids the things they need, not even want…just need.

Okay – Off my soap box and wipe away the tears and “man up”.  <3
