Cute. Slim. Innovative. Three words to sum up Dagny’s Promise Pocket Diaper! The Promise Pocket Diaper certainly impresses me (and I have tried a lot of cloth diapers.)
“Michelle Ray, owner of Dagny’s Promise, left the world of computers and cubicals to stay home with her children when her second was born in 2003. Her second career as a WAHM began with the decision to cloth diaper and the birth of a very hard to fit, skinny little girl. After buying a stash of over 50 different commercial and WAHM cloth diapers, she was about to give up. One contact from another sympathetic Mom, who had been toying with a pattern, made her change her mind. Dagny’s Promise offers several eco-friendly product lines for babies, Mom and the home. Each product is hand made, by Michelle, in her home. Michelle has turned a love of mothering, sewing, knitting, and greening up her small part of the world into a personal, socially responsible endeavor. Promise Pockets are the product of a year of testing and tweaking, to come up with a cloth diaper solution that was comfortable, affordable and fit a large range of baby shapes, all while avoiding the bulk common with many other cloth diapers. They are the original front opening pocket diaper, and have maintained a loyal customer base for nearly six years now. You CAN cloth diaper affordable, with style and keep your baby in those cute little clothes that babies were meant to wear!”In many ways, Promise Pockets are similar to other pocket diapers: waterproof outside, comfy soft fabric on the inside that wicks moisture away from the babies skin, and #2’s roll easily off the diaper and into the toilet.
So what makes them different? The snap tabs go under -not over-the front of the diaper making it inaccessible to the baby, the insert (Pocket Palz) is put into the front of the diaper and is shaped to make trimmer, and the unique trim shape of the diaper itself. These are the reasons that I love it (okay, these and the ridiculously cute prints!)

When I first started cloth diapering, I didn’t like the HUGE fluff bottoms that my daughter had all of the time. Over time, I have (kind of ) grown to think that it is cute. With Dangy’s Promise Pocket, there is no huge fluff bottom! The shape of the diaper makes it very trim . It is cut to significantly taper in around the legs and the Pocket Palz insert does the same, making the entire diaper slim. Wohoo!

So here is a quick summary:
Pros:
- trim fitting (even on my skinny minny baby)
- you don’t have to touch the insert to get it out
- GREAT patterns
- baby cannot take the diaper off due to the way it snaps
- made by a WAHM
Cons:
- 3 sizes to buy
- Pocket Palz insert is harder to stuff than other pocket diapers
Overall, I love this diaper and can’t wait to expand my stash (shhh, don’t tell DH!)
