This is one of the best toys/games I’ve seen in awhile.
Perplexus is fun and very addicting!
Now this kid is good…I go quite a bit slower than this kid;

But you can possibly see why it is so addicting. Once the marble falls it gets frustrating and you just want to pick it up and try again! My kids constantly ran into me while I was playing Perplexus. I kept picking it back up and trying again! My husband said I was beyond addicted to it. Until I finished it, so now it’s a breeze! hehe…Yeah, I’m kidding on that one.
I think every time you pick Perlexus up it gets a bit more challenging!

I, Jason Fry, and my wife were in church – December 2009.

I was sitting and thinking to myself “Wow!!!
I can hear the thunder but I just hope I don’t see the lighting”………
Just kidding……………not really. Anyhoo………..
December is the month when the church has their annual
giving drive to help those in need on a local, national and
international level. Seeing a picture of an impoverished
child behind the speaker hit me hard. I told my wife after
the service (because she gets mad at me when I try and talk to her
in the service), there is so much need in this world it’s overwhelming.
The thought is paralyzing. Need is around every corner and in every country.
I told her I have to do something. I said “Why don’t I create a shoe company
(yes I love shoes) with every pair of shoes we sell, part of the
proceeds are donated to a charity of the consumers choosing
AND we give new shoes to someone who desperately needs a
pair whether they live in Uganda or Houston, Texas.” Need has no boundaries.

So what is this 50% of proceeds talk? How much is that really?
In an effort not to waste your time with “Business Man Talk” and
for us to be on the same page…….depending on the style of shoe,
shipping cost etc, 50% of the proceeds equates to $6 – $9
per pair sold being sent to your charity. We will keep you posted
constantly on the amount of money going to the charities per pair sold and overall.

Finally, why shoes? Shoes are a necessity for everyone and collectively as

My Parents Poor Dog :-(

Last night I received a text from my mom saying that one of their dogs got bit by a snake. My parents live out in the ‘boonies’ as I see it, up a 3 mile dirt road on a hill…Trees, brush, ect.
There is always a fear of snakes around their parts, especially copper heads and rattlesnakes.
My parents Basset Hound is what this snake bit, and at first my dad didn’t know what it was so there was and he is pretty good at telling what snake is what, but this one had him baffled until he googled it trying to look to see what bit his dog.

This is the snake that bit their dog Molly. You wouldn’t think it was a rattlesnake but it is. It’s called a Pygmy Rattlesnake!

I absolutely H.A.T.E snakes, scared to death of them! My daughter actually found a couple copper heads at their house and also they have swam with us in the river. (nice I know!)
Sorry to all the snake lovers out there but the one who bit my parents dog is no longer alive, and I am happy to say it isn’t a protected snake. Though there are protected snakes here in Arkansas, this isn’t one of them!

Sistrurus miliarius is what the pygmy, also known as pygmy rattler or ground rattler, is scientifically attributed as. 38 – 56 cm in length, this is a smaller species of pit viper, when compared to the larger ones of the genus Crotalus. The pygmy rattle snake is characteristically marked by 9 large scales on top of its head and it produces a feeble sound (buzzing sound) with its tiny rattle, that can only be heard from a few feet. According to latest findings, there are three sub species of the pygmy rattle snake which have been identified. They include the Dusky pygmy rattlesnake (S. m. barbouri), Carolina pygmy rattlesnake (S. m. miliarius ) and the Western pygmy rattlesnake (S. m. Streckeri). Now let’s have a quick browse through the different facts about this cold blood creature.

Pygmy Rattlesnake Facts

The pygmy rattlesnake, given to its petite size, can be rarely spotted. Most of its time is spent hiding among leaf litter, burrows or other hiding places. Flatwoods, creeks, streams, lakes, sandhills, mixed forests of pine and hardwoods, scrub pinewoods, marshes, swamps, floodplains, longleaf pine-wiregrass forests and xeric uplands are the places which account for the pygmy rattlesnake habitat and for its sub species. Staying in well-hidden places, the snake is able to lay a well ambushed attack on prey such as lizard, frogs, birds, small mammals and insects. Know about what do snakes eat?

The appearance of the pygmy rattlesnake consists of a base color that can range from red to orange and even other colors as well. Most species, however, bear a reddish tan color and have a black strip that runs down from the eye to the mouth. Rows of spots are common to all pygmy species. Read more on facts about snakes.

Talking about the range, the Dusky pygmy rattlesnake populates regions of North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Kentucky, Tennessee and are also present in Piedmont, but in scattered numbers. The northeastern, northwestern and central portion of Georgia and throughout South Carolina constitute the range where the Carolina pygmy snake is found. Regarding the western pygmy rattlesnake, eastern Texas, Arkansas, southern Missouri and north into southeastern Oklahoma are among the places, it homes.

A pygmy rattlesnake venom although hemorrhagic (destroys red blood cells) and tissue toxic by nature, it not life threatening. However, a pygmy rattlesnake bite may cause extreme pain and may cause loss of a digit, if left untreated. The venom has enough strength to immobilize a small mammal within 35 – 40 seconds. Similar to the behaviors exhibited by other pit vipers, even this snake leaves its prey after having laid its fangs on it. Later, the snake tracks the scent of the injured prey and feeds on it after it dies. Learn more on types of snake venom and snake bites.

The reason why, this species fall under the classification of pit vipers, is the appearance of its facial pits. These pits are situated below and between the eye and nostrils on both sides of the head. These pits are an essential part of the pygmy rattlesnake survival as they serve as infrared sensors. This helps the snake to locate the track and direction of warm-blooded prey or even predators.

Molly will make it through, just a rough and painful recovery for the poor girl! The vet is also putting her on some antibiotics to make sure there isn’t any infection going on.

I never heard of the Pygmy Rattlesnake, and one I wasn’t watching out for! But you better bet I will be now!

We had an absolute great time at BlogHer. While we were in NY we were able to hand out some Sock Grams to some lucky ladies!

Patch products has some great games intended for your children but yet fun for the whole family.
When playing games I like being able to include everyone, including my 3 year old. Patch Products has the games that include everyone and you have to absolutely love that!

We were able to review Patch Products 3D Sneaky Puzzles Singin’ Sea Creatures. Lot’s of fun!
I let my 3 youngest kids start making the puzzle and get finished with it before I let them see it in 3D with the awesome glasses that are included. They absolutely loved it! I must say I was quite impressed as well with the quality of the 3D. The puzzle pieces are big, so my littlest one doesn’t have any problems and the pieces are easy to hold onto.

Not only is the puzzle simply awesome when you put it all together and see the great ocean life and the little fish that are swimming toward you, but when you look you can notice the letters of the alphabet and numbers 0-9 hidden in the picture. My kids absolutely loved pointing everything out to me. They had an absolute blast with this puzzle!
They really aren’t fond of puzzles because they take so long but they loved the 3D Floor Puzzle because Patch Products made it to entice our children! This to me, is a must have for anyone with younger children because they will have tons of play with it.

The Million Minute Family Challenge, are you ready for it?

The Million Minute Family Challenge is a nationwide effort to encourage family and friends to play games together. This annual event, now in its 10^th year, runs every September 1 through December 31 and participation is easy. Gather a group together and register at www.millionminute.com to receive a free organizer kit in the mail. The kit gives tips on how to host your own game night whether in your home or as a fundraiser for your school, game ideas, brochures to help spread the word, posters, tips and advice on how to publicize the event, game samples and more. All of the information is also available from the website.

Next, the Participating groups must find at least 20 minutes sometime from September through December to play a non-electronic game together and then return to www.millionminute.com to log their game playing minutes.

The great thing about the Million Minute Family Challenge is that any group can join: your family, neighborhood, friends, church, school, classroom, library, museum, social game club, homeschool association or any other group you can put together. Another bonus is that this is a fun, economical, activity that doesn’t require a lot of planning and it still provides educational value.

Some Statistics:

In 2009, 442 groups consisting of approximately 7,000 people participated. These are people dedicated and active in promoting the benefits of board games. 52% of the groups included children ages 3-7 and 62% of the groups classified themselves as families. 54% of the participants play games weekly with their family and 83% of them purchased a new board game within the last year.
