Smart Shield Sunscreen SPF 30 Review and Giveaway

smartshieldIf you are like me (and a lot of other people) than you probably avoid sunscreen a lot because it is a pain.  It can be hard to put on your skin because it is greasy, sticky, or just plain smelly.   I know better than to go without sunscreen, but I often skip it because of the mess.  Now that I have kids, I make sure that they ALWAYS have sunscreen on their cute, pale little bodies.   And now, that my oldest talks, she says “Sunseen mommy, no burnin’.”    Darn, she is smart for an almost 2 year old.

Luckily, though there is Smart Shield Sunscreen.  It is not greasy at all.  It does not clog your pores.  It is not messy.  I really like it.  (And they make it for kids too!)

Picture 1

Here is a little bit from Smart Shield:

Better Than Oil Based Sunscreens

SmartShield is serious sunscreen that you can wear all-day, everyday. Our oil free sunscreen won’t clog your pores, won’t stain your clothes and won’t sting your eyes. Our special sunscreen formula is quickly absorbed by your skin for serious, tough protection.

Let Your Skin Breathe

Unlike oil-based sunscreens that clog pores and capture heat, SmartShield sunscreen products are quickly absorbed and bond with the top layers of the skin. This invisible and natural feeling protective shield allows the skin to perspire naturally and stay cooler.

Absorbs Immediately

The Aloe Vera acts as a penetrating agent, which pulls the sunscreen into the skin for hours of effectiveness. Smartshield is immediately absorbed into the skin rather than blocking or clogging the pores. All of our products are hypoallergenic, PABA Free, and DEET Free. They are safe for all skin types and are dermatologist-recommended. Smartshield sunscreen is Aloe based with vitamins A, C and E.

WIN!!

Smart Shield is giving away an all natural, eco-friendly sunscreen to one of our lucky readers.

Scarpasa Review

Most women love shoes (ever see Sex in the City?).  Most women would spend more money on shoes if they could.  Most women will wear “sexy” shoes even if they hurt their feet at some point (if not all points) of their life.   I certainly am one of them.  I have gone for a prenatal check up 9 months pregnant in stilettos  (do not judge me ~ I felt very sexy that day and that is not something I could often say 9 months pregnant!)  My OB looked at me with horror in his eyes and asked me to STOP wearing the shoes.

Did you know that your shoes can cause bunions, calluses, and even permanent nerve damage?  Not to mention the risk of turning your ankle in those high heels.    I did know all of this put sacrifices my feet (legs, back) for the sake of style.   I wish that I had known then what I know now (Scarpasa).  There are stylish AND comfortable shoes available.

“Chris Luhur, founder of Scarpasa–the ultimate source for stylish AND walkable flats, sandals, boots and low and mid-heeled shoes of the highest quality–believes that shoes should never send women home early from a fun daytime stroll or night out. The unique online shoe boutique delivers a carefully curated selection of shoes that are fun, functional AND fashionable–making for an effortless transition from day to night.”

Here are “Chris’ top six tips for kicking foot pain and still enjoying your summer in style.

– Avoid heels of any height that are too tight and that don’t cater to the natural shape of your individual foot. The shoe should fit your foot, your foot should not fit the shoe. Feet are largest at the end of the day, so when in doubt, try on your shoes at the end of the day.

– Check the fit. While too-tight shoes are less than ideal, so are shoes that are too big. Wearing shoes that are too big causes the foot to slide forward, creating more pressure on your toes.

– Try a thicker heel for improved balance and even weight distribution when walking.

– Consider flats. Flats come in every color of the rainbow with unlimited options for embellishments that make them just as fun to purchase as a pair of heels. Switching to flats when you go out can save your foot a lot of strain in the long run.

– Think walkable. For day-to-day wear, a heel two inches or less can work for many women. When you do opt to go with a higher heel, limit yourself to only wearing them for a few hours.

– Look at the material. Leather stretches more than patent leather and synthetic materials and can be more comfortable to wear.”

10SSTACC01-33Q

Scarpasa sent me a pair of mid-ranged heels to review, Zinda, Kyla.  They are MUSTARD yellow!!  Did you know that mustard is a VERY versitile color?  I can wear them with black, brown, red, blue, even green!!   And yes, I get a lot of use out of them.  You would too if you had comfortable, stylish shoes that all of your friends (even the young hip ones without children!) commenting on how much they like them.

10SSZIND07-66Q

The shoes are leather which makes them very comfortable and breathable.  I was afraid to wear them in the summer because they looked warm, but they are actually one of my shoes that do not cause my feet to sweat.  Yeah!    I walk in them quite easily (even caring an almost two year old, a infant carrier with infant, and a giant diaper bag.)  They have not caused me any pain while walking around the mall, festivals, grocery store, etc. even the first time I wore them.

I HIGHLY recommend these shoes from Scarpasa (they are well worth the price tag.)   Their website is wonderful as well.  I love all of the views of the shoes and the way that the images enlarge just by rolling over it with your mouse.  There are lots of categories to help you find exactly what you are looking for ~ a certain look, heel size, occasion, etc.

By the way, they also sell some of the cutest flats I have ever seen!!

SmartShield Sunscreen – Review and Giveaway

July 26, 2010 by LizN
Filed under Adults/Parents, Reviews and Giveaways

My family has spent a lot of time outside this summer (she says as she sits on the couch with the Central Air on). Between tee-ball, walking around, the amusement park, and swimming, we’ve been in the sun a lot.

Knowing that was coming (and how much more summer is left), I was excited to try SmartShield’s all natural, eco-friendly sunscreen. It goes on nicely and evenly and we haven’t had a sunburn all summer! I’ve used it on myself, both of my kids, and my husband. We all have relatively sensitive skin and no one has had any problems. (We’ve been using SPF 30.)

I like it because I can put it on my son at the tee-ball game without getting greasy and sticky. It’s oil-free, so I’m less worried about staining clothes, too.

Want to buy some? Visit their website to buy online or to locate a store near you!

Want to win some? One lucky winner will get a bottle of suncreeen!

    Daddy Scrubs Review and Giveaway

    daddy

Being pregnant is one of the most exciting times in your life. Whether you are the women who is pregnant, or the man who is experiencing the excitement with you. I know when I was pregnant with my son, my husband was always so excited to see the baby, listen to the heartbeat, and see my belly grow. He later told me he wished there was something out there that made him feel a little more special for being the daddy. I thought of that a lot when we got pregnant this time, what can I find for my husband that will make him feel that special? Well I didn’t have to look that far because I found Daddy Scrubs! Daddy Scrubsis a company that make everyday scrubs and make them special for the Daddy’s to be! Just read why Robert Nickell said about why he made Daddy Scrubs.

DaddyScrubs™ is the offspring of Robert Nickell, who fathered his first four children more than 20 years ago. DaddyScrubs™ was conceived when Robert, who remarried in 2007, discovered he was about to be a father all over again in the fall of 2009!

Not wanting to endure the pains of wearing uncomfortable street clothes while comforting his laboring wife, Robert hatched the idea of creating doctor-like scrubs for himself. It seemed a natural thing for him to do — since Robert is a pharmacist by profession.

To eliminate the confusion between “who’s the doctor” and “who’s the daddy,” Robert fashioned the concept of “I’m The Daddy™” medical scrubs.

    93

Just look at those scrubs and tell me you don’t want to see your husbands in them Lady’s, or you men out there can’t you see yourself in them! My husband Stephen was all to excited to model them for you all to see. Here are those pictures!

    100_0640

As you ca tell from these photos my hubby loved the scrubs, and T-Shirt. My husband is in scrubs almost everyday for his job, and told me “These scrubs are so much more comfortable them my normal ones.”

Daddy Scrubs really know how to make that special man in your life feel so special on the day your baby is born! I know that I can’t wait for that day to come when my husband gets to wear his scrubs to the hospital and welcome our new addition to our family. I know how proud he will be wearing the scrubs  I’m the Daddy!

Well guess what folks now you all have your chance to win your own pair of Daddy Scrubs.

      ERGObaby Performance

      July 19, 2010 by SaraM

      header

I have been using ERGObaby for over a year now and I simply love my original carrier.  My husband loves it too!   We have used it all over ~ grocery shopping, hiking, traveling, to put babies to sleep when there was no where to lay them down, to sooth fussy babies, etc.   You can read my original post about our ERGObaby here.

I am excited to share with you the newly released Performance carrier from ERGObaby.  Before I tell you my thoughts, here is a little information from ERGObaby.

ERGObaby is thrilled to announce the new Performance line of baby carriers!

Picture 1Made of durable, lightweight, and breathable fabric, the ERGObaby Performance carriers are made to accommodate all active moms and dads. The Performance carriers feature a high-performance polyester exterior, ideal for outdoor activities in all climates; a breathable mesh lining, keeping babies and parents cooler and more comfortable; and a CoolMax panel for extra wicking. The attached sleeping hood stores easily in zippered pocket. This sleek, streamlined design offers a smooth, supportive fit for parents and babies of most sizes, and can still be used to carry babies from newborn to toddler on the back, front, and hip positions. Of course, ERGObaby’s Performance line supports the correct ergonomic position for both babies and parents.

      WHY PERFORMANCE?

Lighter weight (1/3 lighter than our Standard Carrier) This lighter weight fabric, with mesh lining, is ideal for active parents who want to bring baby on the go.

Durable, water-repellant outer layer, ideal for outdoor sports and activitiesThe rugged, water-repellant exterior provides extra protection against the elements.

Comfort contouring on shoulder strapsContoured shoulder straps keep your baby close to your body, eliminating extra strain on your shoulders or back. Thinner foam padding provides cushion without bulk.

Chest strap on slider for easy adjustingEasily adjust the chest strap to accommodate your own comfort with the sleek and streamlined slider.

Waist belt extends 5″ longer than Standard ERGObaby CarrierExtra length in waist belt provides a better fit for babywearers of all sizes.

I love the sleek design of this carrier.  The newly contoured shoulder straps are very comfortable and I noticed the decreased weight right away.  I also thought that it looked a little bit longer too and it is.  The waist belt has an added curve that makes it go lower and the part where the child sits is about two inches longer as well.    As mentioned above, the waist belt also has an additional five inches to accommodate bigger people (it is very helpful when pregnant too!)  What I really loved though was the wicking material that is on the inside to help keep the baby cooler and the hood is made of a much softer material than the original.

      IMG_1756

Unfortunatley, I have not yet been able to take the Performance carrier hiking or on vacation yet, but I did wear it for several hours while doing yard work and briefly grocery shopping.  While outside, it was about 85-90 degrees with a 95% humidity.  Did it keep me cool ~ no it is not an air conditioner ~ lol, but it did prevent me from feelign like I was sweating all over my 6 month old.

      IMG_1763

      Pros

      • Shoulder straps are less bulky than original carrier
      • Fast to put on
      • Easy to adjust for different wearers
      • Looks trendier than original
      • Cooling mesh is much more breathable
      • Same weight distributing comfort as original
      • Hands free while holding my baby (I LOVE this!)

      Cons

      • My 6 month old gets lost in the extra length ~ it makes me a bit nervous to have her face so far down inside the fabric (this can be remedied with theheart2heart) and I feel like my 2 year old has a harder time seeing out of the Performance than the regular carrier too
      • The new shape of the waist belt was less comfortable on my short body frame  (see the bulgy part under where the girls are sitting)
      • The polyester seemed scratchy to me (though my girls didn’t seem to mind it)

      IMG_1759

Overall, I believe that I will stick to my original carrier until the baby gets bigger,  but I know that my husband will certainly  grab for the Performance first.  He really loves the added length and the way that it breathes.

It’s hot. Even out here in the mountains, it’s hot. Like everyone else in the world, I love a nice cool ice cream on a hot night. And, like everyone else, I’m always concerned with fat and calories. Enter Breyers Smooth and Dreamy Bars and Sandwiches!

There are six flavors – Chocolate Caramel Brownie, Vanilla Caramel Chip, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, Vanilla Fudge Brownie, and Triple Chocolate Chip – each with 160 calories or less and 6 grams of fat or less! Plus, there are no artificial flavors or colors!

I bought the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough (when this is an option for me, it’s hard for me to even see other products!). They are yummy! And, they’re not tiny! I like actually feeling like I’ve had dessert. Often, I’ve gone lower cal and lower fat, and eaten two—totally defeating the purpose!

        Cookie Dough

I will definitely be buying these again (and again)!

Eggo Real Fruit Pizza Blog Tour

        July 19, 2010 by LizN

My daughter and son are on a waffle kick lately. They’ve always enjoyed them, but it’s really intensified lately. I bought 2 24-packs of Eggos the other night. It’s out of control. So, naturally, when I had the chance to try a new Eggo product, I took it!

Eggo has introduced the Real Fruit Pizza, topped with fruit and granola. We baked ours, but you can make them in the microwave in a minute! They come in two flavors: Strawberry Granola and Mixed Berry Granola!

        Fruit-Pizza-Strawberry-Granola

I was actually traveling for work when ours arrived, so my husband and kids made it—without me—to go with dinner. My daughter loved it. My son, who is 16 months and occasionally hates things he loved the previous day, decided he did not like waffles that night. My husband was impressed that the waffle didn’t get too soggy from the fruit and granola topping. He liked it, but he’s too picky an eater for me to get him to want to buy it all the time. Since I didn’t try it, I’ll buy one for my daughter and I one lazy Saturday morning, I suppose.

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Eggo Real Fruit Pizza and received a sample of the product and a $20 Amazon gift certificate to facilitate my review.”

Stevia Extract in the Raw Review and Giveaway

          July 19, 2010 by LizN

We drink a lot of tea at our house. Hot in the winter, iced in the summer. Actually, I love iced tea all year. I have been making a lot of iced tea this summer. I use sugar. My husband hates artificial sweeteners and I gave them up when I was pregnant and nursing, and haven’t gone back. But, we’re consuming so many empty calories! So, I thought it would be fun to do a taste test at home and switch Stevia Extract in the Raw for sugar.

Well, my husband tasted the tea and said “what is this?” He didn’t dislike it, but he really is a sugar purist. I, on the other hand, LOVED it. I have been making my own batches of tea with Stevia Extract in the Raw to enjoy my tea and cut all those calories out of my day. I haven’t tried it in baking yet, but I think I’ll work on another taste-test soon!

Stevia Extract in the Raw is a plant-based sweetener. So, it’s 100% natural and calorie-free!

Want to buy it? You can purchase it online or in stores nationwide! Be sure to download the coupon from their website before you go shopping!

Want to win it? One lucky winner will win a Stevia Extract in the Raw baker’s bag (what I used for the tea—it measures like sugar) and a box of packets (perfect for on the go—I leave some in my desk at work for unsweetened tea and coffee).

To enter, visit their website and tell me how you would use Stevia. Is it a recipe on their site? Let me know in the comments!

Contest ends 8/2/10 at 11:59 EDT and is open to residents of USA who are 18 years old or older. Void where prohibited by law. Winner will be chosen by random.org after the close of the contest and will have 48 hours to respond to email. If no response is received within 48 hours, winner forfeits their prize and a new winner will be drawn. No purchase necessary.

Tabatchnick Soups – Review and Giveaway

            July 19, 2010 by LizN

I often forget to pack a lunch for work. It’s an annoying habit. I’m hoping to break it when I send my daughter to school in the fall, since I’ll be packing one for her!

Because of this, I like to leave some cans of soup in my desk and frozen items in the fridge at work. I was excited to try Tabatchnick soups so I could leave some in the office for days like that!

The frozen soups come two pouches to a box. So, today, I ate the second of the two Vegetarian Chili soups I had in the freezer. (Last week, I had some Barley & Mushroom Soup.) The soups are really good! I like them because I can understand all of the ingredients on the label (you know, mushrooms, beans, etc.—real words!) and they are really well seasoned. The chili wasn’t spicy enough for me, so I added a little shredded pepper-jack cheese to the top (I usually always use cheddar) and it was great that way! The Barley & Mushroom soup was really good, too. I can’t believe I’ve passed these by in the store so many times before!

            Chili-500

My store didn’t have a huge selection (maybe 8 varieties), but there are some products that look really tasty that I’d like to try. Like, corn chowder. I LOVE corn chowder. They also make shelf-stable soups and broths, but my store didn’t have those either. But, even so, I was very happy with the soups I tried. And, it saved me from buying deep-fried food on lunch today.

A little more about the company, in their words:

CEO Ben Tabatchnick keeps his great-grandma in mind every time he develops a new soup or personally visits an ingredient supplier. You’ve heard that some kosher brands answer to ‘a higher authority?’ Well, in the Tabatchnick family, when it came to soups, there was no higher authority in the kitchen than Momma.

As little Benje Tabatchnick, he took tickets from customers in line at the family delis, and then spent his youth working alongside his father, watching and learning what it takes to create great food. He worked as a buyer, traveling the world in search of the finest, freshest ingredients, and today, as CEO, he continues the family tradition by creating world-class soups.

“One of the greatest joys in life is sitting at a table, watching the steam rise from a hot bowl of soup, and anticipating that first spoonful,” he says. “We all have wonderful memories of soup. We ate it with our families, before a big holiday meal, or as a warm lunch on a cold winter’s day.”

Want to buy some? Visit the store locator on their website to find a store near you!

Want to win some? I have a prize pack with an apron, insulated soup tote, and coupons to give away to one lucky reader!

To enter, visit their website and leave me a comment telling me which product you most want to try.
