New Year’s Resolutions for an Amazing 2012

I don’t know if you’ve heard, but we are now in the Age of Aquarius. If you are a follower of astrology, this means that we have the promise of a new age of peace and understanding, the Golden Age. Whether this is your cup of tea, or not, you must admit that of lately people are trying to make a better world, by cleaning up the environment, lending a helping hand and recycling. When you create your New Year’s resolution list of 2012, consider that you can do your part with thoughtful goals that can really make an amazing difference.

* Think about the food you purchase and eat. You don’t have to be vegetarian to plan meatless meals a couple of times a week. Sure it will take some thought, but it could just make you a little healthier, as well. Be friendly to the earth and choose organic fruits and vegetables. When you do purchase meats, choose those that have been grown humanely, such as those fed without hormones and eggs from chickens that are cage free.

* Donate your time. It doesn’t have to feel like a sacrifice. Find something you enjoy. Some elementary schools have a program where volunteers can read to a child once a week. Libraries often have a program where volunteers read to a group of children. Retirement homes have a great need for volunteers to help with activities or just on holidays. Soup kitchens need help in their kitchens. Animal shelters need dog walkers and general assistance. If you really don’t have the extra time, consider regular donations to a food bank or cash to a local non-profit.

* Change your gardening habits. Instead of using chemical weed or bug killers in your yard or garden, consider a more natural approach. There are plants as well as natural sprays that will deter certain insects. Buy yourself a holiday gift of a book that will offer solutions with natural practices to the problems in your outdoor life.

* Lend a helping hand. If someone in need falls across your path in life, you are probably meant to lend a helping hand. It could be as simple as opening a door for someone or offering to reach an item on a high shelf at the grocery store. Sometimes it’s just a smile or saying hello to a stranger. The person that you notice needing a bit of help; is in your line of vision for a reason.

* Do not litter anything, ever. In addition, recycle items whenever possible. If you can no longer use an item that is in good condition donate it to Good Will or a local used item shop.
